About The Artwork
Inspirational trigger for this work was the portrait of Mr. & Mrs. Andrews by Thomas Gainsborough (c.1750) who painted portraits of the nobility set in their landscape. What I have tried to do in my painting is to mirror the equivalent of all that is projected in the Mr. & Mrs. Andrews to the landscape of our time. Deeply textured execution technique together with the fluidity of the subject matter was the reason for intermittent progress from 2010 until the completion in 2020. This painting is very well studied, detailed and executed. It is a highly textured work using mixed media and oil paint. No varnish or similar is applied after the work is finished. Frame less hanging of the work is made possible by having all sides painted and is ready to hang.
