Murky Reflection Print

The source of inspiration for this work was to capture the frustration of navigating a sense of identity. In the composition, you can only see a portion of the face, signifying that we tend to focus on fractions of ourselves as opposed to viewing the who we are as a whole, and that what we see is often not all that we are, there are parts of ourselves yet to be discovered. In the technique utilized in the brushstrokes, there are not very clear, definitive lines detailing the face. This exemplifies how it can feel as though we are ever changing, and how we currently view ourselves is simply where we currently have our footing. It also lends to the thought that we cannot see ourselves very clearly. The lighter side on the right and darker portions on the left express the parts we are trying to lose and the characteristics we wish to gain. Both of which are part of who we are, but can block our view, hindering us from seeing who we currently actually are.
