Jonathan Rogers is an artist who lives and works in London. His work is inspired by landscapes, both natural and urban, particularly from those areas of London where those environments come into contact, such as its canals and riversides. His paintings evolve from initial realistic depictions into more abstracted images while retaining some of the original figurative elements. This reconfiguration process may involve repeated re-workings over the original image or the development of a series of paintings, in either case the origins may be hidden but not completely erased. Jonathan uses heightened or non-naturalistic colour in many of his works, as means of expression, free from the need to portray objects in their natural colours. He paints predominantly in acrylic on canvas, found pieces of wooden board, or recycled old canvases leaving traces of the earlier painting.
