A 'shiviti' - a design of a menorah with God's name in the top middle section, appears in most synagogues. 'Shiviti' (which American Jews pronounce 'Shivisi') means 'I put', or 'I imagine', meaning - I always see God in front of me. And I let my awe of him guide all my actions. Shiviti is the word I always thought I would tattoo on my wrist, if my religion did not forbid tattooing. The letters come from the newspaper, like someone would write a ransom letter, and I love this mixture of high and low. This vertical tryptic (on a single canvas) is inspired by Mark Rothko, with Jackson Polock making a guest appearance in the top third, with paints splashes and drippings, similar to my other Rothko-inspired pieces. The throbbing center is painted with purple, which I always mix from red and blue. I feel it would be wrong to just buy the paint and keep it, because the color reminds me of clotted blood, and it needs to be a living thing. The canvas frame is thick, so you can hang it on nails/screws. Suitable for any room. The canvas frame is neat, and I hung it as is, without additional framing.
