ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Looking out of the window of an airplane is a special experience. We have been able to do so for a relatively short period of time. The perspective that can be seen from such a vantage point is like no other, and the sprawl or twinkle of electric lights at night, from the sky and through the air, excites me so much that I must put down my impression of it on a canvas, with paint. Cotton Duck weave canvas stretched over sturdy poplar strainers provides the surface, and using photos I have taken over the years, I recreate the sensation in two-dimensional form.

Though a stylistic through-line can certainly be seen, I enjoy the freedom to paint whatever my intuition leads me towards in the moment. My "official" statement would be making images that I call "Narrative Abstractions", non-representational works that blur the line between recognizable objects and their activities, and purely non-representational elements.
