This was the first painting in the Narrative series, inspired by T.V. news reports and photo journalism. Like the other later paintings in the Narrative series the subject concerns the lives of children in our 'time'. The original study drawings for this painting were executed quickly with a pencil as line drawings. Drawn onto paper without looking at the drawing, only looking at the subject and making my hand follow my eye movements. This was then transposed to the canvas by drawing quickly again this time with black paint. The later narrative paintings are a mixture of this technique and more controlled draughtsmanship to create a different emotion.

I was born in the New Forest in Hampshire, England but spent my formative years growing up in Newcastle upon Tyne. I moved to the City of York in North Yorkshire at the age of eighteen and have been based here ever since. I attended Harrogate college of Arts to complete a Foundation course then studied for a B.A. Hons degree at Leeds Metropolitan University. I have exhibited and sold my work in York, Harrogate and Glasgow in Scotland. My work tends to be mainly figurative and i put great store in drawing, the ability to draw well should underpin everything an artist endeavours to convey through their Art. In an article in One & Other Magazine, entitled O&O LOVES: RICHARD MOULTON AND THE NORTHERN ART SCENE, 'Ails Mcgee, co-director of According to McGee Gallery, reckons that Moulton is York's greatest figurative artist. "Quite a claim, I know, but we're all familiar with how hard it is to get the human figure appear alive on the canvas. Richard not only brings his characters to life, he brings his own idiosyncratic style that gives them an appealing, unique energy,"
