My series of "Swim Girls" are a meditation on memory, the unconscious and the geologically unique Driftless Area of the upper Mid West. These bold, iconic, figurative works are inspired by the Masters, religious symbology and vintage photos. Set in a timeless realm, the characters appear to have been caught in a moment of transcendence. The large scale mixed media paintings create an intimacy and an emotional response with the viewer. The work incorporates oil pastels and sticks, beeswax, acrylic, paper, plaster, and metal leaf.
