It is not a surprise that the world’s best surfers gravitate towards the North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii; the adrenaline from surviving the “World’s Deadliest Wave” can’t be matched anywhere else on Earth, hence my painting, “North Shore Courage.” Of course, with the exhilarating waves and picturesque visuals comes a danger that has dubbed the Banzai Pipeline the “World’s Deadliest Wave.” Due to the reefs that hide in shallow water and the heights that these waves reach, anyone riding out onto the North Shore waters is at risk, possibly fatal risk, if they don’t hit their marks perfectly. The Banzai Pipeline exists above a chain of reefs that features caverns underwater. When a wave rolls through the area, a giant air bubble soars up from the caverns and through the reefs, creating the gorgeous wave crests that have become world-famous. The most popular of these wave systems is the very first one most surfers see: A swell that rolls from left to right, reaching peak heights of at least 12 feet, called simply “The Pipeline.” The further out the waves crash (in what’s called the “Second Reef” and the “Third Reef”), the bigger the barrels reach. 25-foot-waves are not unheard of, which has an obvious appeal to the world’s risk-seeking surfing fanatics. It’s these picture-perfect waves that bring the most prestigious tournaments in the world to the island every winter when the swells go from merely beautiful to a force of nature seen in few other places around the globe. The edges are finished to match the painting and it could be hung exactly as it stands today. I still prefer to install it in a frame that will enhance the beauty of the painting and complement your decor.

I create original oil painted art on canvas with palette knife and brushes using impressionism and abstract expressionism mixed with realism. This creates a synergistic relationship between the viewer and the painting. The viewer becomes part of the art as they interject themselves in a memorable setting, landscape or city. I take a simple visual and create an entire emotional experience for you, the art lover. You can almost FEEL the movement of the wind or the rain. Although I am primarily self-taught, over the years my love for painting started when I studied art at the University of Colorado. While a student I won several awards for my oil on canvas and acrylic paintings. I continued taking classes in painting while in Japan whenever possible. I have always been multifaceted. It gave me the opportunity to spend time developing my craft. I am not your typical artist. As a young man during the draft for the Vietnam War, I elected to serve my country by becoming an Army Intelligence Case Officer recruiting in Japan during the war. As we all know, gathering intelligence is extremely important and is done by all countries and organizations. After I left the military I was working in Alaska as a civilian and studied landscape oil painting. I worked over 20 years in construction management managing multi-million-dollar design-build projects while honing my artistic talent. I describe my impressionistic style as being akin to the difference between an organ and piano. An organ fills the room with sound leaving little for anything else. The piano creates a tone which momentarily fills the room and quickly dissipates requiring the listener to participate and fill the void until the next note is struck. This immediately creates a synergistic relationship between the artist and the art lover who envisions being the subject of the painting. The art lover becomes part of the art as they interject themselves in a memorable setting or city. Using this technique, it takes a simple visual and creates an entire emotional experience for the art lover. Who Owns My Art Richard Danskin Galleries was previously located in Palm Desert California on what is famously known as the “Rodeo Drive” of the desert. My “Umbrella Series” sold in the upscale gallery with much success.
