About the Artist

Debbie Rappaport-Pine

United States

I began my mixed media collage body of work in 2009. It is an expression of my personal encounters and daily experience expressed through the utilization of an array of acrylic paints, original photography, different papers and fabrics, mediums such as glass beads, blended fibers, different painting, transfer and imaging techniques that express a modern, independent spirit. In ironic contrast, I incorporate an old spirit by utilizing found objects, antiques, vintage and salvage both in my work and/or mountings. My work has been shaped by the consideration of how one acts, reacts, or develops. This is intertwined with a concern for contrasts, harmony, order, and chance in my work. As the process unfolds, it is the expression of a fading past that becomes a release from bondage, permits surrender, and enables the moving forward. My collages are a representation of suffering, rising, transformation and resilience of the human spirit through color, texture, and technique, displaying women, children and flowers as a core and the place that they are intertwined with man.

In 2013 I began sculpture and assemblage that reflect this spirit evolving into the contemporary being in the form of industrial art.

It is in my discoveries, the relationships of what I internalize and the process itself that creates the expression that emerges in my works.
