Oak of Abraham, Hebron. The Oak of Mamre, or the Oak of Abraham, is the tree under which, according to the Bible, Abraham received God. The Bible reports that "the Lord appeared to him at the oak forest of Mamre, when he was sitting at the entrance to the tent, during the heat of the day." Abraham suggested to the three angels who appeared to him in the form of travelers: "rest under this tree." According to legend, the tree has survived to this day, it is an evergreen Palestinian oak (lat. Quercus calliprinos), which is believed to be about 5000 years old. It is located on the territory of the Russian monastery in Hebron, 3 km northwest of the cave of Machpelah.
