ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I made this in southern Mexico, while on a surfing art sojourn in Oaxaca. I knew this region to be magical even before arrival. I was situated on top of a palapa, with my foamies, aka surf family, looking out to the Pacific Ocean. I was drifting in and out of daydreams, and making marks in between. I let the environment permeate every cell of my body, using art to express the feeling. Watercolour was the perfect medium of choice, it is easy to travel with, and the quality of the pigments make for a joyful mark making experience. Having been painted in daylight, out of the confines of a studio, the sun energised the process. Art is way for me to connect with my environment, listening to it's whispers and being fluid to it's whims.
