About The Artwork

This painting was created in spring, with my garden flourishing. I lived in Mexico and visited Oaxaca, Mexico. I love the earthy connection to the land, traditions, folk art, food, and the colonial architecture. This fairy emerged to remind me of that love, and the gold opening in his stomach invites entrance into light, always a feeling of love and hope for me. I like working on 18"x24" paper, because the art looks so great framed with large, irregular custom mat sizes, and buyers can select the frame best suited for their interior spaces, or equally smart in a modern manufactured frame such as they sell on for a great price.

After 20 years of being an Art Director in advertising, design, and marketing, and then publishing six novels, I decided to dedicate most of my time creating two-dimensional art. While painting, I find a wonderful sense of freedom. I love not being concerned about always “staying in the lines,” or traditional use of colors, or the notion of making a mistake! Instead, I delight in the uncertainty of discovery and exploration. My work is personal and expressive. I employ charcoal pencil, pastels, acrylic paint, often using my fingertips, and Japanese oil pens. I refer to the work as graphic expressionism. I am married and live in Austin, Texas with my dog, and biggest critic, "Chino!" [Photo credit: © Jeremy Green]
