(Tom was featured in the June 2018 issue of Art New England, see website for review more about Tom and videos.) Born and raised in Brooklyn, Tom has been painting for nearly 50 years, studying first at The Art Students League and later working at the Metropolitan Museum. After retiring from the FDNY he and family moved to Castleton, Vermont. His great love of nature led him to explore and sketch the Catskills, Adirondacks and later, the intimate landscapes of Vermont. He holds a particular fascination for the Poultney River with its secretive swimming holes and deeply carved gorge. He frequently sketches there using Sumi-e techniques with his ink and Japanese brushes on rice paper as well as photographing the area both above and below the water!
