View In My Room
"Odysseus' Dream" is a painting about the search for an identity that feels like home and is part of a series of works titled "Veiled Figures." The grays are a mixture of Prussian blue, raw umber and white, a Flemish old master mixture referred to sometimes as "moon gray." The cream color alludes to vintage linen and history. The veil at once conceals and reveals; the painting allows multiple interpretations of ceremony, costume, or ritual. I hope the viewer can enter the painting imaginatively, creating their own narrative or meaning. I paint the figure because I love the body and all it contains, its memory, form, desire and imagination. What I want to do most of all with my paintings is to create visual poetry; to bring the invisible into the light.
