I love to let the painting dictate the outcome when I'm creating twisted trees. This one resembles an old man to me. Pigments used include yellow sandstone, a purple-ish sandstone, and charred wood. All pigments are local to the Ozarks and the watercolors were handmade.

My earthy colors come from Ozark pigments. I'm collaborating with Nature out here in rural NW Arkansas (USA). Making paint starts with foraging rocks, bones, soot, and red clay. Processing involves crushing, washing, and drying the pigment before mulling with oils or watercolor media. I call my business and the 160 acres of wilderness we inhabit 'Wild Ozark'. Wild Ozark: Where Madison Woods paints with Ozark pigments … and talks to rocks, creeks, and trees.
