ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is the Portrait of „Zemaite“. Lithuanian Žemaitė – Samogitian (region of Lithuania) or Lowlander Lady. Žemaitė is a nickname. Real name - Julija Benuševičiūtė Žymantienė, she lived 1845 – 1921. She was a famous Lithuanian Writer. The only Lady depicted on 1 Litas (national Lithuanian currency before Euro) banknote. This portrait works as the appearance of the usual rural Lady, the end of the XIX century – the beginning of XX century Lithuania. As it is depicted, no makeup, tired hair, kerchief with crochet. Married lady had to wear a kerchief leaving the house and stepping into the street. Oil on primed canvas. Comes ready to hang, with string. Would be great to avoid direct sun light on hanged picture. Do not take the picture on painted places, please use edges.

Hey there, I am Linas. I was born in Lithuania (at the time part of Soviet Union). My home town is a small city calledd Pasvalys. Gem of wild nature and flatlands of meadows. I chose to study painting in Siauliai city (Lithuania) University. Maybe you have heard about Siauliai city, there is a Hill of Croses around. After my studies I worked as a painting teacher. I do teaching at times. Now I live out of commissions, portraits moustly. Oil on canvas, oil on jute canvas, oil on tapestry are my favorite techniques. Several of my works stored in private "Angel's" museum collection, in Lithuania. My copy of Baron fon der Ropp portait, originaly painted in XIX century, is stored in Pakruojis Manor (Lithuania). Also, I won competition to draw Honorary Citizens of Siauliai city. Link to the site
