View In My Room
This painting is based on two photos I took recently while on vacation in Ireland and Scotland. The first is of the rocky seaside coastline of the Giant's Causeway in northern Ireland. While the second is from a photo of a painting I took in a gallery in Glasgow by Jules Bastien-LePage of a sad peasant girl. When I saw the painting, I decided I was going to put that girl (or at least my version of her) into a painting. I decided to place her atop a giant boulder at the edge of the sea. To me there is a certain timelessness to the Giant's Causeway. Having this sad, peasant girl that was originally painted in the 18th century created a story in my own mind. Why is she standing atop the rock? And what is she staring at off in the distance? Though a departure from my traditional surrealistic ways, this still has a certain surrealistic feel to it. It was a joy to create and I hope you enjoy it!

I am a modern day, self-taught surrealist. I paint ideas. My goal is to depict the impossible or at least, the highly improbable. When people view my paintings, it's readily apparent what is going on, just not always easily understandable as to why. My paintings will make you think and hopefully, bring a smile to your face.
