This tree represents God the Mother and each leaf, overlapping as Venn Diagrams, are people and the way we connect to each other. The leaves are bare canvas (not paint) to represent how we only connect when we are authentic and show who we really are and the white is a subtraction. I scrubbed off the pale blue wash that is the background of the painting. The bold stroke around the entire tree represents a safety and protection from the metaphorical storms of life when we are united with God and others.

Utah native, Boston artist, Julia Blake transitioned to a career in painting in her early 40's, being mentored by artist friends and taking classes at RISD and the Boston Museum of Fine Art. She uses bold strokes+colors, contrast and especially metaphor to compose work that speaks to her desire to learn from ordinary life and experiences. She eschews perfectionism or over-working her pieces and finds that her best work happens when she loads her brush with a lot of paint and limits her strokes. Her art is in private collections in over 27 states as well as Europe, Asia and South America, while her great joy is to connect with her clients in person.
