ABOUT THE ARTWORK

As in most all of my paintings, "Opus 446" invites you to explore both structure and movement. This work has no preconceived message in my designing it. Can we dive into a visual experience without intention, just to be absorbed in wonder? Absolutely! Enjoy! This painting is on gallery wrapped, prime quality canvas with hanging hardware already mounted and my signature on its back. Cheers, -Gordon

My earliest, best memories are colors, shapes, smells and sounds – the touch of my senses filling me with inexpressible experiences. Likewise, the most significant aspects of my life are difficult to put in words. So I draw and paint. Art always was my favorite class from elementary school through college. In college I was exposed to the colors, forms and spontaneity of Abstract Expressionists like Rothko and Pollock. Immediately, I was energized by it all – especially the paradoxical interplay of both structure and chaos. Seven years ago I returned to artistic expression as an outlet for surviving a painful period in my life. After many years in a career of paradox (business & economics together with Eastern thought), I am creating works that explore geometric structure along with spontaneous play in colors, hues and tones. Abstraction gives me the opportunity to focus on color, form, and the dynamic balancing of structure and movement. It allows us to explore multiple perspectives and interpretive experiences. The feelings and meanings you draw from my works are yours, as you yourself experience them. As I work toward a degree of automatism, I offer you freedom to come away with whatever suits you. I simply offer you a visual experience that you might enjoy. My hope is that in this sort of freedom you may discover a touch of escape, a touch of joy.
