This painting was inspired by Madlib's vinyl cover for his album, Shades of Blue. Working with the composition as a starting point I then created contrasting layers, with gestural paint strokes energetically pouring through the painting. Focusing on the potential beauty of blue as a colour.

My paintings are reactionary explorations of my surroundings. Over the years my work has embodied a playful, expressive, emotive aesthetic, inspired by the dynamic light and nature of my environments.
The abstract work subconsciously incorporates rich, deep shades and tones on the surface. I rarely work with a desired aesthetic in mind, layering and applying paint in a spontaneous way; I leave the viewer to decide what the underlying feeling of the imagery means to them.
My practice has always aimed to highlight the importance of retaining painting as an emotive, powerful form of communication in an ever changing technology-obsessed society.
