About The Artwork

My grandma always tells me the story of the first time she found out people could be homeless. She was on a tourist trip to Washington D.C. and her bus was leaving. There were people hovered around the garbage cans and laying down to sleep on benches. She turned to the bus and asked what was going on... they plainly responded: "They're homeless." She has spent years of her life knitting hats & scarves for the homeless. The number she produces per year is somewhere in the hundreds, so the decades she has been at it is simply amazing. All because she is still pained to have this vision in her memory.

My work in painting is acrylic with occasional mediums added in through experimentation. I usually start with a photo-reference that I take with a model or object-- my background in photography lends well to creative references. Once I start sketching on the canvas and painting, the emotion is what I'm trying to chase. Often I don't know what the final piece will look like exactly until it starts unfolding on the canvas in a dance between brush strokes, the subject, and layers of paint blending together. The subjects of my pieces range, however, I gravitate towards portraits or conceptual representations. I started painting in 2016 after some success in the film industry. As the movie projects I worked on got bigger and more full of logistics, I needed a creative outlet I could pour emotion into. I started with a "let's see what happens" mentality with painting and quickly fell in love. Expressing emotions through the subject and style is at the heart of every piece. My work was represented at the Winkler Gallery of Fine Art until June 2019.
