Oxidation Print

"Oxidation" is an encaustic wax painting on a cradled birch panel, framed in a white wooden floating frame. Encaustic wax is an ancient and archival medium that is painted on in layers, with a brush. Each layer must be fused with heat. This makes the medium hard to manipulate, but with a little patience, planning, and sometimes the ability to just throw the plan out of the window, beautiful, natural, and recognizable shapes are created. My work jumps back and forth over the line of abstraction. Some pieces are more abstract than others, like this one, and then others are very realistic. This painting is from a series of tree and nature paintings I did in 2014. This painting, and another from the series, "Timberline #1" are the only ones left of the series, possibly due to the fact that they have only hung in my studio. I don't think I even posted pics of them. They go nicely together, btw! The painting comes ready to hang with hanging hardware, and is wired to the back of the cradle, so the frame may easily be removed if desired , easily allowing the artwork to be put in a different (preferably floating) frame, or hung without frame. I prefer to ship these wax paintings framed, as it helps to protect the art during shipping, and while they look nice unframed on the wall, I suggest the floating frames to protect from chipping if they ever were to be dropped. Each painting also comes with a care sheet, a short history of encaustic wax, an artist bio, hanging hardware, and a polishing cloth.
