'Paddling' is a delicate painting, created with thin layers of oil paint in three hues of blue: ultramarine, prussian blue and the beautiful black-blue indigo. It depicts four rowing boats (one of them is a Sup), which form a kind of tour in the shape of the tag < > coding symbol. The tag is either an empty element that we need to fill in, or it represents a beginning. This shape connects lightly to the new series I am busy with (2020) titled 'Humanise the code'. IN the narrative of the painting, the rowing vessels carry from the left one person, then two, then three, then two again, then one, etc. It is a life path seen from a distance. The cotton canvas is stretched at the studio on a good quality wood with an horizontal enforcement and is imprimed with one layer of gesso. After that, I applied a thin layer of oil paint as second priming, which I let it dry before starting with the painting. 'Paddling' belongs to the series 'Humanize-the-Code' which is being presented at Big Screen Plaza in New York City during the summer of 2022. See details on my website:

"In her paintings we see how a hyper sensitive person perceives the world" S. Kapnissi is a trained painter working on revealing the free true space that we all hide within and that gives purpose in life; just like the sunshine does and the warmth of a real home. "My paintings depict the intensity of life; bright colors or black and white, abstract or figurative, my images point at Life and at our humanity that we evoke through beauty." S. Kapnissi (Athens, 1966) studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University in Greece and at the Free Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague, the Netherlands; for a period as a NUFFIC grantee. She is founding member of the Gaidaro group which from 1999-2008 presented projects advocating for wide participation in the art practice and presentation. Painting is her main activity which often expands to engraving, textile, video and text. Website:
