ABOUT THE ARTWORK

With my Organic Block series, I gravitate towards the use of basic shapes to start. Using paint and tools, I apply reductive techniques with markings and scrapings to reveal multiple layers of paint under the surface. I continue to reduce the shapes edges with a neutral color and create surface scratches to achieve the desired shapes. The organic elements are enclosed in space as if free floating and are defined by a contrasting background. This piece has reductive color shapes of pale blue and olive green blocks fused together and set against a grey background. The painting is signed on the back and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. I coat my work twice with UV Archival Varnish to protect the painting and place felt pads on the back to protect the wall. The artwork is on Gallery Wrapped Canvas and all four sides are painted and ready to hang.

I am an abstract painter expressing my work by exploring the relationship between nature and our environment. Using dialogue between the two can be my best source of inspiration. The tactility of multiple textures and building of layers, are the backbones of my pieces. The severity of the elements can age and weather and create the most interesting designs. The distressed look of patina on metal and dilapidating walls intrigues me by their abstract surfaces and patterns. These textures and layers give depth and dimension to my paintings and are common elements in all my series. I currently live and work in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.
