Palm Springs 1 Print

Having spent a considerable amount of time in Palm Springs and Indio myself, I'm quite familiar with the area. I've been camping at the Empire Polo grounds, where Coachella takes place, every January for years. The juxtaposition of the amazingly green polo fields against the beautiful backdrop of palm trees and the amazing blue desert sky during winter have left a lasting impression on me. In this artwork (Palm Springs 1), a serene and contented woman gazes at us while a tiny fire blazes in the background among the palm trees. Complementing this piece is another artwork titled "Palm Springs 2" depicting a hand holding a box of matches with one missing. The matchbook is from Palm Springs, mainly because I really, really have wanted to paint a matchbook. I have an old collection of matches from the 1970’s and they have the most amazing graphics. The hand in this image corresponds to the one in "Palm Springs. 1," adorned with identical bracelets and nail polish. The implication is that the woman has ignited something intentionally, maybe the palm tree, maybe not!
