Park House Print

I had hiked several miles with all of my gear to find an inspiring autumn scene to paint in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Not finding quite what I was looking for, I returned to my car and saw the sunlight highlighting the structure on the other side of the road. I hadn't seen it earlier because I had my back to it when I started out on the hike. Sometimes, what you're searching for is right behind you. Turn around, and you may be surprised. The work of Edward Hopper has always intrigued me, and I used that influence while painting this house en plein air. The brightly lit side of the house warms the scene and holds the viewer's attention while standing in contrast to the shadows.
