ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I spent one stormy day at a local beach in Kauai and just took randomly pictures with my old camera in the water. Later I saw this one girl that was about to dive into the water similar to the one i painted but i couldn't use it as a reference picture because of bad quality. Weeks went by and I couldn't get it out of my mind. So with the mask in my hand and a better camera in the other I returned but none of the Hawaiian girls were accepting to let me take a picture at first because of low self esteem and shyness, they all thought they were ugly! i couldn't believe it! After much pep talk finally I had my model and she was perfect! I was trying to capture her beautiful soul for everybody to see hoping to make her feel empowered

Patrizia Arroyo studied Fine Art at the University of Frankfurt in Germany. After extensive travels all over the world she returned to start an apprenticeship as a scenic artist. She worked for over 15 Years as a backdrop artist for theaters such as the Berlin Opera and the Opera in Bern, Switzerland. She found her now home in Kauai 2007. Patrizia's work is inspired by the Hawaiian culture and the natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. She likes to explore the relationship between ourselves and our environment, our inner landscapes and outer ones.
