ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Pele No. 3 was inspired by the Hawaiian Volcano erupting a few summers back. Pele is the goddess of the Volcano, the destroyer and the creator. The feminine power of the volcanic goddess intrigues me, and I tried to create the lava that destroyed, but also built a foundation. This painting is part of an ongoing series.

Born in Krakow, Magdalene Gorecki lives and works in Chicago. Magdalene Gorecki (I) is all over the place. I paint I take pictures, I throw oddly shaped vessels of clay...I can rarely place a bookmark on who I am or what I do because I am what I do. I have tried my entire life to define myself as an artist and the furthest I’ve gotten is the Ouroboros of being subject to my mediums and the destroyer of those creations that don’t taste right. Painter, photographer, mixed media, ceramicist- artist… screw it. I like to create, I want my art to go beyond something pretty to look at, I want movement and lasting impression and purpose but ultimately I want to create; and sometimes I want to destroy my own creations.
