ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Semi-abstract floral painting inspired by feelings of spring and blooming. It is a beautiful time full of flowers, sweetness of pink petals, associated with exotic flamingos, cotton candy, pink bubble gum, little girls in pink and fluffy dresses, childhood and youth. Pink is an extravagance and a wish to be noticed. Pink is exotic and innocent. Pink is a colour of universal love, sweet side of colour red. Pink is affection, harmony, inner peace Pink and white together symbolize innocent early years when everything is still ahead. When is there a better time to look at the world through rose-coloured glasses if not now? If a petal from a cherry tree drops into a drinking glass, all desires and dreams come true, say the Japanese. Cherry trees are sacred from them, symbolizing life and the volatility of the world. Life is ephemeral and fleeting as the cherry trees bloom, they say. It is the same ephemeral as the spring, which comes back to us over and over again.

Merle Sild is a British painter working with oil paint and cold wax painting medium mostly. She holds a BA (Hons) in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking from Plymouth College of Art and has recently completed her MA in Painting. Inspired by Dylan Trigg, Merle is searching for a broader context between memory and places re-visioning her own personal history. She is painting the stories of timeless rebirth and hopes of new life beginning in locations of disasters and destruction. She considers her art to be a tell-tale, looking for emotional content even if it reflects ugly problems. Painting in abstract or semi-abstract ways gives her more freedom, though she is sometimes extensively influenced by the old masters and their creation of impressionist images. Her main aim of creating is to tell the viewer about the responsibility which needs to be taken knowing that together with time, humans are the most powerful creators and destroyers.
