Phoenix, a mythical bird that lives in Paradise and is most often associated to the Sun is believed to be immortal and a symbol of rebirth and renewal in many cultures including: Persians (Simorgh), Arabians(Angha), Turkish(Emerald Angha), Egyptians(Bennu), Greeks, Romans, Japanese(Fenghuang),Russians(Firebird), Chinese(Vermilion), Hindus(Garuda/Berunda), Tibetans(Me byi karmo), Koreans, and Vietnamese. In European culture Phoenix is an allegory for the resurrection of Christ. In this painting Phoenix is surrounded by other heavenly birds that each one is a symbolic figure in the realm of spirituality. The vibrant colors in the painting are inspired by my vivid dreams and its subject matter draws from my spiritual journey in Sufism.
