Artist Statement Human body in all its shapes, processes and especially limitations is my main interest and subject for painting. My intention is to speak visually about the complex nature of being trapped and trying to escape. I use elements of nature combined with elements that show tension and oppression. These range from scars, knives, teeth, open wounds, chains and various types of bondage. During the painting process my goal is to give equal attention to the emotional element as much as to anatomy. The technical process of building a form is important to me because I am strongly influenced by Russian academic tradition. I find it fascinating when a 2D image can give a viewer a rich and extended emotional and cognitive experience. The mediums I primarily use to convey my visions are graphite pencils and oil paint. Bio Kristina L. Vladi is a visual artist who was born in the former USSR and currently lives and works in London, UK. After receiving an education in academic drawing and painting in Riga and Saint-Petersburg, she stepped back from traditional art and has worked in advertising agencies as a graphic designer, assisted photographers as a stylist, illustrated medical books, customised motorcycle helmets and created illustrative artwork for London music bands. Kristina’s work has been shown in various London motorcycle art shows and published in tattoo inspiration books by Out of Step Books (USA). Since 2018 Kristina works as a fine arts tutor, studies towards a degree in Psychology and has returned to oil painting practice.
