About The Artwork
The Pieta was one of Titian's last paintings. There is something so incredibly iconic about the work and I wanted to increase that and explore the forms. It is painted on burlap which repels any attempt at fine detail. I painted thickly and did a lot of scraping to expose underpainting which makes it feel old, almost like an artifact dug out of the ground.
