Painting hydrangeas keeps my summer vacations with me year round. I love to bike around Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard and enjoy the spectacular perennials. I'm always amazed that these plants survive the harsh winters and come back in their glory every year.

Utah native, Boston artist, Julia Blake transitioned to a career in painting in her early 40's, being mentored by artist friends and taking classes at RISD and the Boston Museum of Fine Art. She uses bold strokes+colors, contrast and especially metaphor to compose work that speaks to her desire to learn from ordinary life and experiences. She eschews perfectionism or over-working her pieces and finds that her best work happens when she loads her brush with a lot of paint and limits her strokes. Her art is in private collections in over 27 states as well as Europe, Asia and South America, while her great joy is to connect with her clients in person.
