This plein air painting is part of a series of pool paintings I've done on this site. I love the retro vibe of the kidney shaped pool and 70's style pool furniture. While the landscape is situated in the present, it simultaneously evokes an earlier era. The inflatables bring a sense of fun and playfulness to the scene; hence the title "Pool Party." I appreciate the juxtaposition of the stillness and serenity of the scene with the suggestion of boisterous activity. I am drawn to landscapes that suggest human activity and lie at the intersection of humans and nature.

I am a Vermont artist specializing in contemporary portraiture, still life, and landscape. Working in the alla prima tradition in oil and acrylic gouache, I paint largely from life, seeking to capture a sense of immediacy, freshness, and intimacy in my paintings. My work was featured in the exhibition "Body of Work: New Perspectives on Figure Painting" at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. as part of the museum's biennial exhibition series Women to Watch. My paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums on the East and West Coast as well as Canada and are held in private collections throughout the U.S.
