About The Artwork
On a visit to the Coppola Winery in Independence, Sonoma, CA., I sat by the lovely pool they have there and enjoyed a cool drink as I watch the pool-goers enjoying the sun and water and general ambiance. I wanted to paint this happy yet stylish scene. In the painting I hoped to achieve a dynamic balance between the crispness of the human figures and the imprecision of the water. In an earlier version of the painting I left the water in a less developed, more abstract state, but later felt it should be finished to a greater degree.
