Portrait of Ena Wertheimer, a copy after Sargent Print

Here's another copy I made a few years ago. The original is painted by the American painter John Singer Sargent, and concerns a life-size depiction of Betty and Ena Wertheimer. It can be admired in the Tate Gallery, London. It is one of my favourite paintings, so I endeavoured to copy a detail of the painting, showing Ena's face. As the original was painted in the alla prima technique, so did I. (Alla prima painting means painting in one go, as opposed to painting layer over layer.) Nowadays, it's my favourite way of painting. Apart from the technique, I liked to get Ena's expression right, she has such a frank and powerful gaze... For me, it was a great exercise and great fun too! It is painted using the finest oils and a first-class Belgian linnen, measuring 30 by 40 cm.
