Portrait of Jacob is a surrealist work emerging from a dream. It is a representation of a person as well as the concept of duality. Good vs evil and the blurry areas that meet between them. Six tentacles above, seven below, and an ectoplasmic orb of energy at its center holding it all together, or perhaps being the source of emergence. Its meaning developed over the two-year span this painting was worked on. Decisions that were at first arbitrary became so clear in their overall framework of the finished product. As if they were being guided by a greater source all along. This work is framed in the orientation shown but as I have worked with it, I can see how it can also be admired from any orientation, vertical or horizontal. The frame is a minimalist dark floater frame.
