ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Darjeeling has inspired my creativity in ways joyous and novel and I romance with the mountains through a cascade of colours. Whether, it is the prayer flags or the seasonal changes of nature the motion that the brush strokes release sweeps us away in a flurry of beauty. Sometimes it is serene; sometimes the speed leaves us breathless. My paintings are giving an opportune moment given the fact that it reorients our attention to the Queen of the Hills and sensitises us to the beauty of the place. It is a beauty that is not merely in the colours and the forms but also in the embodied lives of the people who form an indispensible part of the Darjeeling of our imagination.

Chandranath Das, AMA is the former Chief Curator of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. As a restorer and a senior museum consultant by profession, he holds a graduate degree from the Government College of Arts Kolkata, postgraduate degree from Italy and an Associateship of the Museums Association from the United Kingdom. His fascination with the semiotics of museum display and art conservation has made him the first AMA holder from outside the UK in the field of Museology. He is also a qualified mountaineer and an avid painter rendering wondrous visual and artistic illustrations on his canvas. His paintings can be seen gracing the walls of the Rashtrapati Bhavan museum in India, Modern Art Gallery, Edinburgh and other prestigious museums and galleries. In 2023, my creation - Himalayan Range Poster and 3D Model in a single frame has created HARVARD WORLD RECORDS .
