ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"Pride, Self Promotion" was one of the first pieces created in the Extraction Series. While many of the paintings in the series were primarily experimentation-based, this piece was an exeption. I am intrigued by printmaking, and when I was introduced to woodcuts I found I have an affinity to the negative shape around the image. So I played with that shape and later found that it reminded me of the attribute of pride and which encourages self-promotion. This is something of which I have tried rid of my character. I found that when I puffed myself in pride I was quickly humbled by someone who was humble although they were much more proficient than I was, to my embarrassment.
