VIEW IN MY ROOM
My work is often inspired by music--Sonetto ("a little song"), Allegro, et. al--so while reading Psalm 138, I realized that a psalm is a sacred song, which prompted me to create a painting that is a visual song of praise, incorporating words and phrases from the text, as well as visual rhythms and patterns. The work is done in watercolor on 140 lb. Arches paper, from which a collage is created and then mounted on canvas and over painted in oils with touches of alcohol inks. The palette is blue and teal, with gold leaf accents. A series of psalm paintings will follow.

I'm interested in the language of abstraction, and I often use collage or multiple layers of paint to express multiple layers of experience. I work in oils, cold wax, watercolor, and sometimes alcohol inks, allowing the strengths of each medium to contribute to the overall expression of the piece. My work appears in private collections throughout the country.
