ABOUT THE ARTWORK

QUEEN OF SPADES is one of art the pieces in my #covid-19 quarantine lockdown series. An average adult in the nooks and crannies all over world were gripped by the fear of certain uncertainties. For many, its chiefly the concerns about survival. Economic survival – family finance, job security, businesses folding up e.t.c. Survival of the fittest – body health immunity against coronavirus. Hardly would you find a responsible individual who has not taken a moment of solemn reflection during the height of the viral scourge. The few great minds who cares to plan ahead of time are however making great strides and taking profits, even as new variant of Covid like Omicron is being discovered. In Cartomancy, the QUEEN OF SPADES is considered to be a sign of Intelligence. It is representative of judgement that is practical, logical, and intellectual. A depiction of a woman who is creative and makes her plans ahead of time. As the circumstances of life sometimes crushes down the human soul, my art reminds you that you have one.

Makinde James OlaDapo (A.K.A Adubi Mydaz), was born in Oyo state, and is a self-thought professional artist. He graduated in 2007 from Olabisi Onabanjo University with a Bachelor’s in History and Diplomatic Studies. Adubi consistently exhibits artworks of a broad representational style; an expressive abstract composition that are inspired by contemporary life. As one examines the semi-abstract pictures closely, these images which symbolize faces and forms of age long afro-centric sculptures reregister the uniqueness embedded in African originality. Adubi lives in Nigeria where he explores his artistic passion in a private studio as a full-time painter.
