Since having a child I have really began to re-assess the nature of men and women relationships to each other and themselves, particularly with femininity in today's world. I feel women have become quite disconnected from their femininity. To be a woman is to nurture, love, and create- we have such a powerful creative force within us. Men and women seem to be in constant social battle, women are adopting traits in men that they once didn't see as desirable themselves and anything considered 'masculine' has become labelled as 'toxic masculinity'. This is what inspired me to begin this new series of works. I want to encourage and remind people of how connected we are, how we need each other to thrive, and how one's femininity and masculinity is something to be appreciated and celebrated not pushed away to make us all the same. Queen Bee reflects the beauty of women, as the Queen poses in feminine form, while covered in her worker bees. The bees represent community and celebration, as the worker bees never stop working to serve their Queen. This also acts as a reminder to women, for while we have progressed a long way, it was once the men who built the world while we nurtured it. The bee is a symbol of personal power, which women have truly come to own, but we must not neglect the ones who have always protected and adored us.
