I'm a Costa Rican painter (mainly acrylics) who developed an early interest in art around age 10 with Francisco Amighetti, a renowned teacher and artist trained in Italy, who lived in our neighborhood and encouraged us kids to 'help out' - it was a lot of fun -and learning- just to hang around, ask questions, and watch him work. My somewhat more formal training began with Cecilia Woodbridge and mostly with Guillermo 'Chino' Porras, chosen in year 2010 among the top 20 artists in Latin America. I have been truly privileged to learn from these wonderful teachers. Painting has been a leitmotif throughout my life; as an spectator when not as an actor. I'm always working to grow as much as I can as an artist, which has been at the same time frustrating and thrilling - lots of hard work and then sometimes reaching dead ends, or (in glorious contrast) achieving something I'm proud of, even if for a little while; until I see my painting a couple of months later and start thinking 'maybe this line should have extended all the way here, or this cadmium orange+yellow mix is a little too bright', and so on. I have also been trained as an economist, which is quite an interesting way to see the world (although for the other side of the brain!), and probably has a lot to do with my leaning towards abstract painting. Or maybe it's the other way around? I guess you can think of works of art as stylized representations of some aspect of reality (objective, subjective or a mixture of both); in many ways similar to the 'models' economists like to create. Not as colorful or filled with emotion as art, but many of them have their own formal beauty. In any case, welcome to my Saatchi corner.I sincerely hope you enjoy it! Best regards, Hermann
