ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Finnish title: Rajatila English title: Borderline Acrylic painting on plywood. Framed. "Rajatila" is pretty much a direct translation from "Borderline" and it is an outdated name for what is now in Finnish called "unstable" personality disorder. It is still called "borderline" in English. Hard to believe that after having this painting idea and a mighty need to get it out into the world it would only take one six hour session to get it painted. (That is without the time the backround, varnishing and painting the frame took). Believe it or not, I didn't use pictures of myself as reference here. It's a self portrait in many ways but it wasn't supposed to be my face ?. I suppose that is what happens when you paint something so personal about your own life experience. For sure those are not my ears or teeth though. But yeah, this painting is about what life is like for me a lot of the time. I can go through every possible emotion in a day in any order and it can make things hard and exhausting. I've always lived life in superlatives and every feeling gets overly intense. I had to make a painting about it because I'm constantly thinking about my personality disorder and doing my best to become a more stable human in therapy.

FYI, I also have smaller pieces for sale on Etsy. Link on my website. :) I was born in 1992 in the heart of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. I was an art line student in upper secondary school (in Lyseonpuiston lukio) and continued on to study graphic design in University of Lapland, where I got my bachelor's and master's degrees with a major in graphic design and minoring in art history. I am now trying out a new path with psychology education while I paint, draw and customize dolls in my free time. I suppose a lot of my art could be considered "vent art". I like to put my difficult and strong emotions into my art and use it to deal with difficult questions I'm grappling with. I also like to use art as another vessel for my interests in alternative fashion and whatever else I may find myself obsessed with. My favorite mediums to work with are colored pencils and acrylic paints.
