About The Artwork

Ray Charles Robinson or “brother Ray, as his friends and fellow musicians referred to him, was also often as “The Genius.” Although blinded at childhood he is a 17-time Grammy Award winner. He was honored with the Grammy lifetime achievement award; 10 of his recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2002, Rolling Stone ranked Charles No. 10 on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time and No. 2 on their list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" in 2008 It is for these reasons and so many more that, as a tribute to Black History month 2020, I elected to paint Ray as a tribute to him, his music and his legacy. And because I love his song, Georgia on my Mind!
