Red roofs of a farm and a golden rapeseed field at the skyline. Living in a Dutch polder, I'm fascinated by the perpetual changing moments of the light, the sky, the colours of the fields. A polder is a low-lying tract of land that forms an artificial hydrological entity, enclosed by embankments known as dikes. Every moment is different, every moment is new. The famous Zeelandic light is always playing a great role, the sea is reflecting it. "I could feel the sky. The movement. The pressure. The unimaginable expanse! I love how the sky is nearly everything. The things on earth minimized." "Amazing how one tiny splash of red makes the whole blue sky more intense. Your low horizon lines are so dramatic and so very Dutch" This painting is ready to hang and framed in a perfect box frame. (floating frame)

Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen is an independent contemporary artist, born 1944 in the Netherlands. Landscapes are her main subjects. She is known for her Zeelandic landscapes with a low horizon line and impressive sky. Other subjects are her female faces, cats and abstracts. Nelly started her professional artist-career in 1975. The inspiration comes from her surroundings : the skies, the skylines, the dikes and the sea. Zeeland is renowned for its special, beautifull light: it is refracting in the water around the isles and the polders. Her landscapes are representing a special place in the long tradition of Dutch landscape-artists. 'My landscapes are me... I could always paint them.. When I look outside I see them And when I look inside I see them.' Her skyline landscapes: "The landscapes of Van Nieuwenhuijzen are extensive, born from an intense experience of the openness of the Zeeland area. An undertone of mysticism is unmistakable. As if caught in line and color movement continues in the invisible behind the horizon. The accentuated line is both the boundary and the window. The subtle differences in rhythm and nuances reflect a range of emotions." (C. Bos) Other subjects are her so beloved cats and catwomen and other female-portraits. She obtained a very personal style in representing her favourites. ( ' They are sirens of your imagination. They go to places and do things which you can only dream of! Strong, seductive images' O. Savvidis) Her works are in the collections of big compagnies like Dow Chemical, BASF, Rank Xerox etc. and in a lot of private collections all over the world. A critic wrote about her: This Zeeland artist shows that in art personality is more important than originality. (Sietse Postma, a well respected critic for KUNSTBEELD, an art-magazine in the Netherlands) . Nelly sells and exhibits her work exclusively online, represented by Saatchi Art.
