ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The painting was started as a plein air piece on an extremely cold day in January and completed in studio. My inspiration was the warmth of the morning light on the dead reeds and how it belied the bitter cold all around. I also wanted to capture the contrast of the rough vegetation against the smooth ice -- two seemingly different worlds in close proximity.
