ABOUT THE ARTWORK
James Zamora's realistic “aisle paintings” are well-known throughout the US. Using different spatial compositions the artist translates common marketplace imagery into a stylized, elevated environment. Working in oil on canvas, he explores the representation of elements that surround us in daily life in unexpected still lifes. Zamora's artworks examine the particularity between the relationship of our eyes with the subtleties of our immediate reaction. His paintings investigate current supermarket trends and the response of the consumer captivated by the abundance of delightful choices. The chocolate peanut butter cups have a chromatic blue highlight that is complementary to the orange wrapper. The bold yellow, white, and black of the wrapper contrasts against the neutral white background.

I am a contemporary realist painter investigating ongoing trends and popular products and their effects on the consumer. I was born in Graham, TX in 1988 and earned my B.F.A. in painting and drawing from The University of North Texas in 2010, and then my MFA in painting from Texas Woman's University in 2015. I exhibit nationally on a regular basis with five galleries, and am in numerous personal and public collections. I have appeared in several publications including New American Paintings West #114 and New American Paintings West #126.
