Born in Berlin, Sven Jakubith's life and art are shaped by a passion for exploration. His travels by bicycle have taken him across Southeast Asia—Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Cambodia, and Thailand—as well as New Zealand and Cuba. In 2015, he embarked on a solo sailing journey from Mallorca, Spain, to the Caribbean. The following year, after crossing the Panama Canal, he sailed single-handedly to French Polynesia—a 48-day voyage across the vast Pacific, where the endless horizon left a profound mark on him. After selling his boat in Tahiti, he purchased a larger vessel, ETHEREAL, in Barcelona in 2016, and set off again for the South Pacific. In 2018, while ETHEREAL waited in Panama, Sven re-established a studio in the Bavarian mountains, reconnecting with his art after a 15-year hiatus. His recent works, much like his older pieces, are centered on the theme of traces—both physical and immaterial. These traces reflect his travels: the footprints left on a beach, the wake carved in the Pacific Ocean. Using travel photography, silkscreen prints, and light-sensitive coatings, he captures these fleeting moments on canvas. His art is an exploration of memory and movement, expressed through vibrant colors, subtle shades, and layered compositions, all conveying the concept of "Distant Traces."
