About The Artwork

Remember. The painting depicts Khachkars - a type of Armenian architectural monuments and shrines, which is a stone stele with a carved image of a cross. The word Khachkar is formed from the Armenian roots "khach" - "cross", and "kar" - "stone". In November 2010, the art of creating Khachkars with the wording "Symbolism and craftsmanship of Khachkars, Armenian stone crosses" was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In the era of Urartu, the kings began to install vertical stone slabs, telling the world about their conquests and laws. Similar stelae were also built in the Hellenistic period of the first dynasty of the Artashesid Armenian kings. At that time, there was already an established technology for the construction of Khachkars: at the base - a pedestal, a massive stone block, a hole was hollowed out, into which a stone was placed vertically with an inscription and a pattern already applied to it. Urartrian and Hellenistic monuments became the prototype of the first Christian khachkars, which appeared immediately after the adoption of Christianity, and were called upon to testify to the Christian faith. This Artwork was made in 1989. The Original Artwork and Prints are Available.
